Workin' on my Fitness

Pre ankle break, I was a very busy individual.  I never went to the gym but I hustled at the salon 40 hours a week and I was often out running around the city on my days off.  I rarely had “a lazy day”. I detested going to the gym unless it was to swim. I just lead an active life and that was great. I was fit enough to win the title “Miss Fitness” at the Miss Fuller Woman Pageant. Post ankle break, I settled into a life of complete sedentary.  I sat for my job for 40 hours a week and then sat to chill out after work.  My hard won strength and endurance slowly slipped away. This...

Hidden Gems

One of my favourite and apparently untapped Plus Fashion resources it Reitmans.  So many of my favourite pieces have come from Reitmans.  They sell jeans up to a size 28.  They also produced some of my most favourite television ads. As we bid adieu to the dog days of summer I transition from flip-flops and breezy summer dresses into cropped jeans and crisp, pressed shirts.  Though the humidity likes to hang out through to the end of September, I love the crisp mornings and cool evenings.   A cute pair of heels can take a casual outfit into girls' night out in a flash.  I picked these cuties up at a thrift store on Roncesvalles here in Toronto.  I love...

Behind the Scenes with Thigh Society

About a month ago you may recall how excited I was that I met Marnie, the Maven behind Thigh Society (the anti-chafing garment).  Her garment has positively impacted not only my life but the lives of many women I know.  She’s a real life super hero! Not long after our meet cute, I received an email from Marnie, inviting me to participate in an upcoming shoot featuring her garments.  I cheerfully and excitedly accepted!  I love the garment and I’m just vain enough to say I love getting my photo taken so I was definitely in! I woke up with the birds for my 9:30am call time last Thursday.  It was rainy and windy and wet and awful.  I was...

Here Comes the Sun

To find salvation in your darkest moment, all you must do is find the sun.  Sometimes we can become so blinded and bound, drowning in the muck of life that we forget the pure joy that feeling the sun on your face.  A quiet moment with my face upturned, my eyes closed and a breeze in my hair is a balm for my soul. During a recent photoshoot with the immensely talented, dream team of Robert Skuja and SaraBella Makeup I found myself enjoying a quiet moment in High Park.  Robert caught me in his magic lens and the rest they say is history. I was nervous to go adventuring solo.  My husband has been with me almost every minute of this...

The Elephant in the Room

CW: Depression, anxiety, bullying, profanity   On August 11th I woke up in the morning pretty pleased with my life.  Twenty six days earlier I had won a beauty pageant, I had a career I loved, a loving husband and easy, stress-free, love filled marriage, I was dropping my grandmother and baby cousin back at the airport after a wonderful (and busy) visit, and I had a fit modelling gig that afternoon.  I loved everything about my life.   Then, the unthinkable happened.  While I was wearing a beautiful dress I was putting my shoes on and I lost my balance and I fell.  I looked at the woman who was facilitating the fitting and calm as could be i...
